Interview with Jákup á Borg: the living legend of Faroese football

Jákup á Borg was born in Tórshavn, on 26 October 1979. He made his international debut for the Faroe Islands national team in 1998 against Bosnia, and he collected 62 caps, scoring 2 goals. He played for three teams in his career: B36 Tórshavn, HB Tórshavn and OB Odense. He is a living legend of the Faroese football, and our blog contacted him for a short interview. Here it is:

Jákup Ludvig Thomsen is one of the most promising players of Faroe Islands U-21. He was born in 1997 and he plays as striker. He has taken the first steps of his career in HB Tórshavn, the most winning team of Faroe.

He moved to Denmark when he was 15 years old. He currently plays for FC Midtjylland. Last year, with FC Midtjylland U19, he reached the quarter final against Barcelona losing at extra-time in the Youth League where he've played all the five matches scoring a great goal against Atletico Madrid. Era la partita più attesa perché, in fondo, era la resa dei conti. La resa dei conti tra le due squadre che più ferocemente si stanno battendo per la vittoria del campionato e, soprattutto, per la gloria: nell'anno del tracollo umiliante della capitale, ogni titolo vale il doppio. Sia per il KÍ Klaksvík, che ormai inizia a ricordare l'odore dei fasti che furono, sia per il Víkingur Gøta, il cui giovane progetto si è finora rivelato vincente e ricco di soddisfazioni. Era la finale che metteva contro il passato e il futuro del calcio faroese, ma anche lo stesso presente, con le due formazioni che finora sono di gran lunga le migliori dell'anno.
